Knights of Suburbia
I’m planning to self-publish my novel Knights of Suburbia this year. After attending the self-publishing panel at IndieGrove, I felt very inspired to take this route. However, I keep getting hung up on the cover. I can’t make cover art. Even if I could, I don’t think I could ever be happy with something I drew myself.
The cover art needs to be realistic and gritty with the slightest hint of medieval romance. I’ve thought about something like a tattooed arm reaching for a broadsword or part of a man’s body with a tattoo of a family crest.
The novel is about unsung heroes who are just heroes by nature and ask nothing in return. Even after their war has ended, or even if it never began, they act as protectors of innocence. My main characters are two young men living in a small suburban community. One is a college graduate and the other is a wounded soldier home from Iraq. The story is probably 60% about the soldier which is why I think his tattooed, shrapnel scarred body should be on the cover, but I’m open to other ideas.
If you’re interested, please e-mail your thoughts, credentials and some portfolio work to firstname.lastname@example.org. I would ask that you read the manuscript, discuss ideas with me, provide a 1st draft cover and a final draft cover for print.
