“Bad Juju on You” Selected for Paranormal Genre Event
I’ve been hosting a monthly genre night for the Jersey City Writers group. These evenings serve as a way for writers to feature their work, having it presented by actors in the form of a literary reading. Last time I judged the pieces and selected the lineup for the event, but this time I asked Joseph Michael Del Prior, Angelica Schreyer and Allison Goldstein to be the judges and to assign points to anonymous submissions before I revealed the authors names. At the end of what I imagine must have been a grueling weekend for them, the judges had selected my story “Bad Juju on You” to be included.
This event is going to be themed for Paranormal Fiction. Third & Vine is hosting us with light fare and happy hour wine specials. I’ve asked Jessica Nelson to present my piece. She’s one of my favorite local actresses and she has a certain je ne sais quoi about her. Leanna Renee Hieber, a paranormal romance author whom I adore and respect, is making an appearance, speaking on the genre and signing books during the break. All in all, I’m very excited about this event.
Not only are these pieces going to be read at the genre night, but they will be published on the Jersey City Writers website. I’ll be sure to add a link in my portfolio once my story is available online. “Bad Juju on You” is a creepy little tale inspired by the nightmares I kept having during my time in New Orleans. This piece is only the first chapter of a much longer novella, but more on that later.
If you’re interested in attending, the event will take place at Third & Vine, 353 3rd St. Jersey City, NJ 07302. 1-4 p.m. May 10, 2014. There is a $5 suggested donation to help defray expenses.
